| | Stand And Salute: Rock’s Most Anthemic Bands | | Here are the top ten anthemic bands according to Spin magazine:1. U2 -- If the word anthemic disappeared, U2-ish would be a good replacement. Bono always sounds like he's singing mass, the Edge's guitar rings like the trumpets at Jericho, and Larry Mullen's rhythmic stiffness is a virtue. Adam Clayton? He, uh, always looks stylish.
Signature anthem: "Pride (In the Name of Love)"2. The Clash -- Any band dubbed "the only band that matters" has got to have some serious anthemic power. Punk rock is often associated with a kind of nihilism, but the Clash sounded like their hearts might explode from caring so much.
Signature anthem: "Death Or Glory"3. The Who -- I'm thinking of the Who's Next stadium rock version of the band more than the early modfathers. Pete Townshend's power chords and Keith Moon's roiling drum fills were, and are, key touchstones for any band wanting to sound bigger than life.

| | | Any old school hard rock/metal fans amongst us? | | Hey do we have any old school hard rock fans between us? By old school i mean thin lizzy, led zeppelin, deep purple, or even older bands that have influenced the genre so much!
I am a fan of this period of 65-75 music.We got real diamonds in this music when electric sounds and effects werent done at studio engineering, instead what you got was what was created by those incredible musicians.
Any picks among those great bands, performing at 65-75 or maybe up to 1980, when NWOBHM appeared?

| | Can Australia not make our own tv ads? | | Ok, I know that there are alot of people from New Zealand living here in Australia but there are some ads on tv that you know were made in New Zealand. Recently they have started to show (again) the old V drink ad with the termites - that's a well known fact that it's kiwi made (& funny)...Now there are 2 new ads on tv that have been made in New Zealand - Well at least 1 of them has been. The first 1 is for the Thin Lizzy Make up - everyone in the ad has a Kiwi accent so it's definately made in New Zealand. The second is for the new stone dine cookware - now this one could have been made in Australia - the demonstrator has a kiwi accent but could be living here in Oz. I'm not complaining about kiwis - I'm married to one so have alot of family (in-laws) in New Zealand. I just thought with Australia being a bigger country, we should be able to make our own ads. | |
